| William James
Fearne - Photographer Donna Fearne is researching a photographer who operated in Australia from around 1860 through to the late 1890s, William James Fearne, who claimed to be born in London in c1821 and probably learnt his craft in UK. She is seeking images, either British or Australian by this photographer and thinks that as a very big percentage of c-d-v taken in the 1860/70s were sent back 'home', some may exist in the UK They will be marked 'Wm Fearne photographer Wagga Wagga' or whatever town on the back. He also worked in Adelong, Tumut, Gundagai, Chiltern, Beechworth, Young, Hay, Berrima, Berrowra, Jerilderie and there are many many more obscure little Riverina towns and stations. He usually hand signed the back of them so they can also be mistaken for Tearne, Hearne, Searn etc. Donna can be contacted at Geofff@hinet.net.au |

Advocate Research David Gardner (member 7969) is hoping to establish how many of this simple, but beautifully designed camera were made and to find details of the many specialist cameras that were produced based on Advocate bodies. If you have an Advocate or a variant of it, it would help this research if you would complete the web-based form at: http://website.lineone.net/~mauricefisher where, along with the link to the Ilford Advocate Survey form, you will find detailed information on the Ilford Sportsman range of cameras. |

| Club member David
Gardner is undertaking research into the production of the Purma Plus
camera (produced in the UK 1951-59) and would welcome help from anyone
visiting this website. David is looking for information on all Purma cameras
and accessories and examples with original packaging (to borrow to
photograph or to buy). He is especially interested in finding out more about
the production of the Purma Speed, Special and Plus and about the
design of the Purma Special which is often attributed to the Loewy
organisation but may also have involved the famous commercial artist Tom
Purvis. If you have any information about the production of the cameras, any original literature you would be willing to loan or provide copies of, please contact David by email at: david@gardner01.freeserve.co.uk or phone (tel 0114 2659096 in the evenings). If you have a Purma Plus and would be willing to complete a short survey form to describe its features and serial number, please click on the link here to see the form. |
