Aston Court camera fair :-

Sunday 10th. February   2008. at
Aston Court Hotel,
Midland Road
Derby

"Once again we filled the York Suite and annexe with a full house of tables. I suppose we could have squeezed in another one if push had come to shove but as it was everyone was very comfortably accommodated.

Under the expert control of Peter and Carol Cheetham everything seemed to come together without fuss or stress. Max Alderson, as ever, was there at the crack of dawn to see fair play, and even though he long ago retired from the post of chief steward, I don't know what we'd do without him.

Out in the very cold car park, but with some bright sunshine to lift his spirits, Edmund Hurlston put in a lot of effort trying to sort out the cars - especially trying to find the owners of the ones which were badly parked and blocking others in. Not all the culprits were connected with the fair either!

Indoors we experienced a gradual flow, building to a surge, of hopeful buyers coming through the doors - 16 of whom were early birds. Some came and went fairly quickly - most with interestingly shaped plastic bags in their hands, others dallied longer, chatted to their friends and then went on their way with the obligatory plastic bag full of goodies.

There was plenty of interesting and very collectable equipment on display and the atmosphere was positive and buoyant throughout so although we started to wind down around 2.30, everyone present seemed to have enjoyed the day making profitable sales as well as interesting purchases.

Treasurer Bruce Williamson was delighted to report that at the final count we appeared to have made a small surplus - enough to encourage us to consider putting on the same event again next year.

Nr. Nottingham/Grantham.

MIDLAND REGION MEETING

SUNDAY 8th. JUNE 2008

WHATTON JUBILEE HALL, Whatton Village, just off A52 Nottingham to Grantham road approx 4 miles east of A52/A46 junction

Hall opens at 09.30 a.m. for setting up sales tables

10.30

Chairman's welcome and opening remarks.

   Followed by:-

11.00 John Wade. Presenting the fruits of his considerable research on the   Wrayflex story. The research is ongoing so each time John talks to us he has developments to reveal. If you have heard it elsewhere it will certainly be different at Whatton AND, I can tell you, John makes it all really interesting!

 After Lunch –

"SHOW and TELL" session during which members demonstrate and talk about a favourite camera from their collection which conforms to criteria set out in advance by our chairman.

For this meeting the criterion is any make or model of BOX CAMERA. Aim for a talk of about 5 minutes - you may be able to talk for longer if time permits. You could also consider using the same camera for the SHOOT & SHOW display – How about THAT for an idea?

In advance of this meeting the more industrious/energetic amongst us can be creating a new shot for the  "SHOOT & SHOW" presentation using an old camera from your collection. (The Box camera perhaps?)  Bring your shots AND the camera!  If you can't manage it this time keep in mind the Christmas meeting at which we would like once again to hold a major "SHOOT & SHOW" display and competition, with everybody making a contribution, and a prize, plus the Pemberton Billing challenge trophy for the most interesting combination of a collectable camera with an image showing off its capabilities. There will also be a separate prize for the best image in this competition, as such.  All images entered for this annual contest should have been taken, using the collectable camera entered, since 1 December 2007.

Finally, can we invite yet more interesting contributions to the junk auction? Your junk may be someone else’s treasure and there is no accounting for true collectors’ tastes.   Our resident auctioneer has not been selected yet (or been volunteered) but he/she WOULD love to be offering some even more TEMPTING items.

 Directions:-

Whatton Jubilee Hall is on the north side of the village. Turn left off the A52  into the village if coming from Nottingham way, or right into the village if coming from A1 (Grantham). A post code for those using satnav is NG13 9EU – that’s actually Peter Aspin’s house but he is very close by.
